“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change, that lives within the means available and works cooperatively against common threats.” — Charles Darwin
By focusing on some key areas within Houston Methodist IT, we’re ensuring our continued ability to adapt to health care’s quickly changing landscape. Many of you have done similar things in your personal life, like upgrading your Wi-Fi or purchasing Cloud storage plans for mobile devices. It’s all part of a connected foundation for meeting an ever-growing need for technology.
At HM, we’re safeguarding our ability to innovate by developing a robust IT infrastructure, with modern platforms for our devices and applications. Without this focus, we limit our capacity to evolve.
Some of these foundational changes may be visible to you and others might be behind the scenes. Here’s a snapshot of just a few updates:
-
Moved Epic to the Cloud to improve reliability and security last December.
-
Installing additional cabling for construction projects across all facilities to improve access and bandwidth to a robust network.
-
Transitioning to Epic Hyperdrive in two waves, March 10 (HMB/HMCL) and April 21 (everyone else).
-
Epic Hyperdrive moves Epic to a web-based platform, allowing for a more secure and consistent experience with improved performance and quicker turnaround for innovative advancements.
-
As of February 12, an early adopter group is using Epic Hyperdrive and is already feeling some of those performance improvements. Some initial system data shows the response time of Epic is cut in half and survey responses indicate 92% of users are satisfied with the speed/performance of Hyperdrive
